Milky Way - Our home galaxy is the Milky Way, which contains the Sun, Solar System, and billions of other stars. In fact, all the individual stars visible to the naked eye in the night sky are part of the Milky Way. When our direction of vision points towards the galactic plane where most stars are found, we see many stars concentrated in one band of the sky. In dark skies such as the one in the picture, this band of the Milky Way is seen stretching above the horizon. If you go to a site dark enough (far enough from city lights), it truly is an awe-inspiring site! This picture was taken outside of a wood cabin near Yellowstone National Park.
